In the year 1560, the Confession of Faith for the Church of Scotland was written. There was arguably no greater, more biblical, and purer branch of the overall 16th and 17thcentury Protestant Reformation than that which took place then, in Scotland. We praise God for all the men that had a righteous hand in that generally wonderful work, who stood for the Lamb of God and His Headship over the Church - such as Patrick Hamilton, George Wishart, John Knox, etc.! We need more men in heart like them today, despite certain obvious mistakes that they believed and made. Indeed, notwithstanding all the good that happened then, and all of the Christ-formed worthiness of these Christian men, it must be acknowledged that no reformation over the last 2000 years has manifested and brought forth anywhere near a biblical expression of New Testament Christianity, as it is seen in the book of Acts! This fact is troubling, and this fact must change, our unchanging God demands it – Who gave His Son to die for men, that they might worship Him in God's ordained way - see the Book of Acts to understand! Seeing that the Word of God is the standard by which we will be judged, not Church history and not the Protestant Reformation - seeing that the Word of God, alone, depicts “the Church” as God defines it, a Church that truly pleased God, we need to get back to the Bible! We need to get back to the “Apostle's Doctrine” which is the fountain-head for the abundant grace and glory in New Testament Christianity!
“Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown. Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.” (Jer. 2:2-3)
Blessedly, though the Protestant Reformation, even in Scotland, did not bring forth the “sweet savour of Christ” that the early Church did, “fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God”, there is one principle that is universally redeemable from the Protestant Reformation. It is the undisputed distinguishing principle at the helm of the Reformation and all biblical reformations before or since, including the work of God in the days of the Apostles, and it will be the same underlying principle at the heart of any work of God in our day. Namely, that the Word of God is the final authority on all matters of faith and practice and not the doctrines or traditions of men, however universally or historically accepted they may be. This principle is clearly articulated in the quotation below, from the aforementioned Confession of Faith, otherwise known as the Scots Confession of 1560. It was written in the section about "the notes by which the true Kirk [Church] is discerned from the false, and who shall be judge of the doctrine” and is the same glorious principle which the following book, written by Sean Morris, is founded upon. Hallelujah to the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ! O God, help us get back to the Bible!
"When controversy then happeneth for the right understanding of any place or sentence of Scripture, or the reformation of any abuse within the Kirk of God, we ought not so much to look what men before us have said or done, as unto that which the Holy Ghost uniformly speaketh within the body of the Scriptures, and unto that which Jesus Christ himself did, and commanded to be done [Amen! That's right! Praise God!]. For this is the thing universally granted, that the Spirit of God, which is the spirit of unity, is in nothing contrarious to himself. If, then, the interpretation, determination, or sentence of any doctors, kirk, or council, repugn [contend] to the plain word of God, written in any other place of Scripture, it is a thing most certain that theirs is not the true understanding of the meaning of the Holy Ghost, supposing that councils, realms, and nations, have approved and received the same.”
In light of and harmonious with this foundational principle established above, Sean Morris has written the following blessed yet serious, biblically accurate book, “Answers to My Brethren the Calvinists”. It does not pretend to be mere entertainment writing. It is not intended to be of much help to the proud and carnally minded, who are not willing submit to the infallible, inspired, inerrant, and preserved Word of the Living God as the final authority on all matters of faith and practice, and who do not fear God, the Creator, Sustainer, and the Redeemer of all men, especially them that believe. Yet for those that love the Truth, love the cross of Christ and His flesh-killing doctrines, fear God, desire enduring oil in their lamps against the terrible thundercloud of tribulations that are looming over our land and around the world against Christianity at large and especially all true confessors of Jesus Christ, this book is for you! It is a clear, plain, and biblically logical exposition and interpretation of the Bible regarding some traditionally important yet divisive issues in fundamental Christianity, especially issues which concern the Doctrine of Salvation, not based upon any private interpretation of God's Word. Rather, in the following Sean has compared precept with precept, scripture with scripture, line upon line, and verse upon verse in a very simple and helpful way, to those that are not so prejudiced, full of party zeal, or proud that they are unable to hear and learn and listen to God's Word honestly and rightly divided. “The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.” “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” ( Pro. 15:28, 2 Ti.2:15).
Reader, brother or sister, enemy or friend, as you consider reading this book from a pastor of the Church of Wells, who is a very controversial figure in our nation today, especially amidst certain parts of professedly fundamental Christianity, lest you make a terrible mistake before a holy God, right as judgment hovers over our nation, I entreat you to weigh in the balances the fact that this man, who was once a great sinner, prays sometimes 8 or 10 hours a day, and not less than 5 or 6 as a general practice (I lived with him, traveled with him, and have been close to him for years); he weeps more for the state of the fallen Church and the Bride of Christ than anyone I have ever known; he hates sin and injustice with a passion I have hardly imagined possible outside of the pages of Scripture, in himself and others; he is exceedingly humble and accountable to all those that come to him in a reasonable spirit and without hypocrisy, yet when it comes to wicked and unreasonable men, he fears none of them even unto the death; he sleeps less than others; he fasts more than most; he runs harder after God than nearly anyone I have read of in the pages of Church history, yet not him, but the grace of God that is with him. He loves Jesus Christ with a passion that has driven him to willingly submit himself to a life of poverty, persecution, shame and reproach, danger and pain. Indeed may you consider these things before drawing illegitimate conclusions based upon the lawless vilification of his righteous character by those that discriminate against him for his uncompromising and cross-loving beliefs, and may you be blessed by the following chapters, if you so choose to read them.
Lastly remember, the Holy Ghost inspired commendation given to the Bereans, many of whom were saved from their sin because they searched a matter out before they drew any conclusions on it, by reasonably and soberly hearing a terribly defamed man sent by God named Paul, preach Scriptural things that they had never truly known, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few”(Acts 17:11-12). Remember also the wisdom of the judicious secret follower of Jesus, Nicodemus, which the Pharisees should have heard in the days of our Lord's 1st Advent, but refused to even entertain in the slightest unto their own decimation: “Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?” (John 7:51) Finally, dear friends, don't forget the very important declaration, and sadly a condemnation of many through the ages unto this day, in Proverb 18:13, “He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.”
Lastly, for whom and why was this book written, you might ask?
First and foremost, it was written to the remnant of God's people in America and around the world for the edification of the saints of God, and the enhancement of their souls, that they might be strengthened with the unleavened bread of God's plain and biblical Truth, by which God has determined to sanctify them (Jn. 17:17) - to the end that they might not be overwhelmingly drugged and intoxicated by the unwholesome doctrines of carnal and heretical men, that do not rightly turn their followers from sin unto the glorious Gospel of God's Son! As it is written, “I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied. But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings” (Jer. 23:21-22). It was written in a good spirit and with a heart of love on behalf of the Church of Wells to all our brethren who love our Lord Jesus Christ in truth and have not bowed the knee to Baal, spiritually speaking, whosoever you are. It was written to you, who, despite the ever increasing barrage of Satanic-ly inspired and sin-justifying fiery darts false prophets are launching more and more every day in our sin-pampering and flattering age, have not put up the white flag of peace with them “by reason of whom the way of truth [is] evil spoken of” (2 Pet. 2:2). O the grievousness of these men of sin evermore preparing this generation and this nation to take the mark of abomination, that is the mark of the beast, unto their own destruction as though it were a light thing! “Fools make a mock at sin”, not Christians who are living a life consistent with the cross! O friends, I charge you to hold out in the siege of antichrist and his spirit against God's “remnant according to the election of grace”, don't give into sin and make yourself a friend of the world and an enemy of the King! We want to help you under God, to the glory and praise of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world, “Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father” (Gal. 1:4). We have no greater desire than to see the true bride of Christ sanctified, washed, cleansed as per Ephesians 5, and prepared for the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ, that we all might reign with Him for a thousand years, together, in “new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness”, when He shall wipe away all tears from our eyes, and fulfill all the unspeakable promises which He has made for His saints, who suffer with Him and overcome the world by faith in the Lamb and His true doctrine, that we might together and always and forever be with the Lord our God, Jesus Christ the King! Hallelujah, praise God, may His name be ever praised and adored, world without end! Amen! He is worthy! Hallelujah for the blood and hallelujah for the Truth!
Furthermore and to the shame of all that are involved, this book was written as a scriptural counter-refutation and response to many of the slanderous libels and accusations that have been erroneously, vilely, and unfoundedly stated against the doctrine of the Church of Wells, in an unbiblical and insincere way. Indeed, certain individuals are justly called out by name in this book, for their unreasonable and unbelievable Nabal-like behavior against this work of God, with the hopes that they might be brought to repentance for answering a matter wrongly before they have even heard it, and forsaking charity for their brethren. “He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.” “Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame. Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another: Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.”“He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace” (Pro. 18:17, Pro. 25:8-10, Pro11:12). Nabal, for your information, was the husband of Abigail and an Israelite in the flesh, not in heart. He all-too-readily received the commonly spoken and widespread reviling accusations of rebellion amidst other things toward the faithful yet beleaguered man after God's own heart in his day, David, while Satan via Saul assailed him through a propaganda campaign not unlike that of Adolf Hitler against the Jews in the Holocaust. There has sadly been a similar smear campaign against this work, not alone by the heathen, but even by certain men that many trust, who have forsaken biblical due process and behaved in such a way as Nabal did, who was mentioned above. It is said that Nabal, whose name means folly, “is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him” (1 Sam. 25:17). I entreat all you men, who have committed such sin, to repent. Nabal did not make it to heaven.
Moreover, I entreat everyone that is reading this Introduction to listen to the “Introduction Video” on the following website by myself and brother Jake Gardner, wherein we explain more of this sober situation. It will help you, the reader, to better understand the context of why this book was written in the way that it was, and why Sean Morris has called out certain men by name herein. The website is www.thechurchofwellsresponds.com, and the men that have been called out by name in this book are as follows: Paul Washer and Marc Glass of HeartCry Missionary Society, Samuel Corneloupe and Caleb Courneloupe, formerly co-elders of Street Church in Adelaide, Australia. All of which have railed upon us and reviled us without apology or at the least have been involved with those that have, as though these sins were a light matter. Please read 1 Samuel 25 to see a biblical example of both reviling and railing in the person of Nabal against David and the work of God in his day (please see the fearful warnings of God against “revilers” and “railers” in 1 Cor. 5:11-13 and 1 Cor. 6:9-10). These men have been unwilling to hear us, heartlessly attempted to smear us, and may God help them, have forsaken all mercy and charity for their own brethren, without even being willing to know us though we have more or less pursued each of them! Other men could be mentioned, who have also similarly sinned, but have not been called out by name in this book. The video will mention some of these tale-bearing professing Christian leaders.
Men and brethren, we have wept for all of you because of your sins, and the wrath of God that you have no doubt brought upon yourselves through your unthinkable transgression against innocent followers of the Lord Jesus, without so much as a hearing! May the Holy Ghost, Who is the only credible and biblical witness look upon it and rebuke it, for the witness of God is greater than the witness of men (see 1 Jn. 5:9, Jn. 5:32, Acts 5:32).
“Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.” (Pro. 17:13)
“Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.” (Pro. 21:13)
“Because they regard not the works of the LORD, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.” (Psa. 28:5)
“For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.” (Psa. 109:4)
“I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war” (Psa. 120:7).
In closing, praise God for the light of biblical Truth He is giving our generation, despised though it may be! If there is any hope for our nation, the doctrines that are laid out in the following book and understanding them that we might draw nigh unto the God of salvation is surely a start to finding it! May the sanctifying Spirit of God be upon all that call upon the name of Jesus Christ in truth. Grace and peace be with you, friends!
Hallelujah, hallelujah, praise God, worthy is His holy name! Let the Lamb be praised, and let the Lord be glorified, for He hath done great things! Who can deny the wonders of His worthy name!? Let the name of Christ be exalted, and let all the people say, AMEN! Hallelujah! Praise Jesus Christ the King! May the Lamb that was slain receive the reward for His sufferings and may the Truth of God's Word prevail forevermore.
Sincerely for the glory of God and His Christ,
